Synopsis

"Suspense, psychology...and a touch of the bizarre."

When a brutal murder in a jazz club shocks a small New York town, the residents’ lives are ripped apart by secrets ranging from personal to political to the utterly bizarre. Everyone’s lives are touched by the murder, and the cops suspect a conspiracy focusing on a local golden boy, the wealthy, allegedly idealistic do-gooder Tristan Campbell. Who killed the warm-hearted waitress? Who’s blackmailing the would-be state senator? What’s the unfathomable truth behind a woman’s strange illness?  Who on the police force is hiding a nasty secret of his own? Why does the chief witness for the prosecution really disappear? (And these are just a few of the mysteries in the first season alone!)

A longrunning, acclaimed serial launched in 1997 focusing on the twisted psyches and self-destructive behaviors rife within a tight-knit community.  Interwoven storylines spotlight sexual obsession, clever mysteries, black humor, gothic suspense, overseas adventure, touching romance, family drama, organized (and disorganized!) crime, and heartbreaking angst.  If you loved Twin Peaks, American Gothic, Picket Fences, and classic, character-based soap opera storytelling, you’ll love ASF. Dive in ... and don’t be afraid of the dark.

Despite its lengthy history, you can dive in at any time thanks to easily accessed character bios, setting descriptions, and episode/plot recaps. Also, readers can vote and play a role in the future lives of their favorite (or least favorite) characters.
