Darkthorn's Profile
Sex Shock!
A review of Tales of MU
Tales of MU is a great read, making it difficult to look away from the screen. That said, the level of mature content included can be quite shocking at times, and it is probably not suitable for those with sensitivity to homosexual and slave/master themes...
Pleasantly Scary
I sat down looking for something to read, and was pleasantly surprised to find this novel. Although I’m generally not really into the mystery genre, it was very interesting and pulled me in with the code (which I couldn’t break, and had to wait until the protagonist did it for me)...
An interesting concept.
A review of Crime and Violins: The Well-Tempered Clavier
I found this novel to be interesting, even if the archives are very short. The writer’s style is natural, and it didn’t seem forced.
While the story-line, and the way that the ‘chapters’ were set up intrigued me, I naturally hated Arcady, and didn’t feel much empathy for Zene, the other protagonist...
For younger readers.
A review of School Kids SG
Initially I thought I had linked to the wrong site, as it appeared to be someone’s personal blog. After I had found the link to the main story, I was frustrated by the lack of links to the next chapter...
Horror vs Humour
A review of Undead Flowers
Undead flowers combines horror and humour effortlessly, encompassing vampires, werewolves and the inevitable human aspect of life. The author is particularly fond of cliff-hangers, but most of the chapters resolve this problem...
Humor and Fantasy? I don't think so.
A review of Eikasia
Although initially threatened by the reference to ‘Seinfeld’ in the genre heading, the fantasy elements promising me ‘Xena: Warrior Princess, meets Lord of the Rings’ sounded much more promising...
Anime style!
A review of Dimension Heroes
Dimension Heroes tells the tale of The Go-Cart Gang, a group of kids with bracelets that give them extraordinary powers.
This novel reads like a poorly rendered video game, with rather corny attack names and ‘Guardian Powers’...
Just like a real book.
A review of Eastridge Academy - School for Adventurers
Well, if you were looking for a novel that is published like a real book, this is it. Painstakingly slow to load and read (you’d better have fast broadband, or else it takes up to 5 minutes for a page to load), the novel does include images of the characters which are usually worth the wait...
Occult done well.
A review of Tattoo
This novel is great! While there are only 4 chapters so far (13th October 2008), what is there will leave you wanting more.
If you like the occult, or have a liking for vampires, werewolves, malevolent toad gods and the like, this is the novel for you...
I promise it's not music.
A review of Enchanting Scales
As far as I can see, this novel has nothing to do with musical scales, but rather a more exciting kind: Dragon scales.
The point-of-view is generally that of the protagonist, Pandora, but some scenes involve her new-found friend Serene (a half-elf girl)...
Excellence
A review of Blood Moon: Vampire Chronicles
Wow. This novel really blew me away. The author manages to convey Erika’s (the protagonist) caustic sense of humour, while also hinting at darker things in her background.
The novel is packed with action, there is barely a dull moment...
Shows promise
A review of The Last Luminii
The Last Luminii has a decent start, but sadly, doesn’t have much content as yet. Apparently this is a series (which says to me there is a fair bit of it already written), but as it only up to chapter 7 and updates are twice weekly, it will be a while before there is anything really worth mentioning...
What veil?
A review of The Lifting of the Veil
This novel’s initially slow start promises to build into a decent climax - which sadly, just didn’t happen for me. The age-old theme of the apocalypse is rehashed again, although the aliens seem intelligent and nothing is going to plan for the earthlings, the old idea of humans always winning out seems inevitable (what author would create his characters just so he can kill them off?)
The writing style seems somewhat stilted and unnatural, with the characters speaking very correct English...
amusing
A review of Zombie Punter
The quality of this novel is somewhat lacking. But for a light-hearted, quick and easy read, it is perfect.
It’s impossible not to feel empathy for Eugene, a stunted scientist that has a crush on his jock best-friend...
not so strange (if you like sci-fi)
A review of Strange Little Band
Addison and Shane are equally self-centered, and equally certain that they are going to get their own way. it is amusing to watch the two postulate, and try to manipulate each other, although in the end their son connects them...
an easy, enjoyable read
A review of Life
Kemia is a caring, if somewhat unexperienced young woman. At 16, she seems like she still has a child’s imagination, but the ability to hear others’ thoughts sets her apart from most of her adopted family...
