"A Slow Start"
9 chapters in and the author hasn't updated in a while. I'm not sure I would recommend this to anyone just yet, but if the author had to come back, I would certainly read a bit further.
The start is slow and nothing much happens. The writing is passable but could do with some tightening up. That being said, just enough hints at a story and pending adventure make me want to keep on reading.
I didn't enjoy the technical description of the army encampment, but I did read someone else saying it was well-researched. It came at an appropriate moment in the story and I'll go with what the other reader said, for now.
At times, the writing became almost lyrical and with a few more edits at tightening the sentences, I may burst into song.
I think this author has a good story with a good foundation of characters to work from. With a bit of a kick and a boost, I hope to see the this author continue. I want to watch the characters evolve and the adventure begin.
