Synopsis

"The comedy crime fiction novel"

There’s a little bit of Curly Gibson in all of us. Not the dangly sexual bit, of course, just the part that tries hard and means well, but never quite seems to be able to get ahead.

He’s a Australian state cricketer dreaming of one last shot at the big time before his knees liquefy and he’s forced to grow up and get a real job.

Lucky for him he’s a happy-go-lucky spud and a prodigiously talented sportsman. Too bad he is getting old and creaky. And shot at a lot.

The bulk of the Australian cricket team are away at the World Cup and the stars seem to be aligning to give Curly one last shot at a shot at state cricket, but just as he can taste that six-figure CA contract, things go astray. He does a mate a favour and suddenly there appears to be a procession of strangers hellbent on putting a bullet in him.

So not only does he have to figure out why half of Sydney wants him dead, somehow he’s got to stay alive long enough to revive his career, sort out his vindictive ex and reclaim his apartment, and politely convince those who are gunning for him to use someone else for target practice.
