Synopsis

"Two worlds are following the path to war, a path being blazed by the Van Allen Express."

Hux Athelby was born to fight. A soldier, he served the Sylvan just as humanity started embracing the promise of advanced human genetics over the hybridization of man and machine. But Hux isn't just a cyborg. He's a Mechanic; a bio-mechanical hybrid who embraces the philosophy that he needs to struggle with both the human and machine aspects of his body in order to live a whole life.

Now Hux Athelby is an investigator, one of the few remaining Mechanics capable of directly accessing the leftover technology of the bygone age before the New Century War. A detective in the TechCrimes division, he solves the crimes that his genetically modified masters only care about in order to pacify the dwindling the community of Mechanics on Earth. Hardened after three centuries, Hux looks at the turn in power and questions the sacrifices humanity has made to get to where it is today.

Hux Athelby realizes he has always been a tool to maintain order in both times of war and peace and he's tired. He's so tired he decides to do something about it-something that his new masters, a group of Genetics named the Matrons, are willing to risk fighting a war to stop.

A path to war being traveled by the Van Allen Express.
